CMYK and PMS for Printing Business Cards
Perfect Colour Matching for Your Brand
The Pantone Matching System (PMS) is used in graphic and digital design and print media. It is a proprietary number system that gives designers superior colour-matching accuracy(*1). Where CMYK doesn’t give you the colour you need, use PMS.
Brilliant Colours Made for Digital Design and Vibrant Printing
With the Pantone Matching System (PMS) we can ensure the colours used on your business cards match your brand colours perfectly. Spot colour printing is often used when the CMYK process fails to represent a brand colour correctly. It is brilliant for brighter colours.
Pantone colours are commonly converted to CMYK, but this process can result in a dull, flat colour.
For example, Orange 021 is a colour (used on the business cards above) which is not possible to reproduce using digital or offset printing processes. PMS printing is the only way to get this and many other exact colours.
An Inventive Solution for Accurate Colour Matching from Herbert Lawrence
They say the greatest inventions are those born out of necessity. For Herbert Lawrence, then (1956), colour accuracy in his role as a colour card creator for cosmetics companies was essential(*2). Women the world over can give thanks to Lawrence for opening a bottle of foundation to find it does actually match the colour card!
The Pantone Matching System officially created in 1962 not only provided solutions for accurate and exact colour matching of cosmetics cards, but it has also spread across the digital, print, fashion, and design industries – becoming a standard for thousands of designers the world over(*2).

Express Yourself with Colour Re-Brand & Rejuvenate with Pantone Colours
There are now Pantone Matching Systems for designs destined for printing on cardstock or paper materials, fabrics, and other media(*3). The type of media a design is printed on influences the final colour result which is why it is important to choose the right colour for the intended printing medium.
Just as you would choose a quality primer and paint for your home’s exterior to ensure the result matches the colour swatch, the same goes for printing business collateral. The cardstock, colour, type and coating all combine to create the final intended result.
Have our designers give your branding and designs a refresh. We will also give you all the colour codes you need to further expand your print collateral.

• Choose your PMS colour and be sure to provide your artwork with the correct layer. Computer monitors don’t represent colours correctly. Where possible, use a physical swatch (colour card).
• Pantone Matching System Printing (PMS Printing) is available for business cards right through to folders and posters.
• PMS printing is particularly useful for exact corporate colour when CMYK cannot match it.
• Digital printing process is not available for PMS printing.
