Business Card Design Tip – Safety Area Margins

When designing your business card for printing, be sure to include a 3mm margin around the edge and keep all important information and images within the main area. This will ensure that your most important elements in the design will not be cut off during printing and trimming.

Most design software includes ‘rulers’ so you can check the spacing and ensure your design is centred perfectly.

Are Glossy Business Cards Better?
Thermal Celloglaze Lamination Coating for Extra-Durable and Vibrant Business Cards

What is better for business cards – matte or glossy finishes? Are glossy business cards better? What type of finish is best for business cards?

First and foremost, the message you want to send your potential customers and networks is most important. A shiny, glossy business card may not be your cup of tea, or you may be on the fence about the most effective finish (and embellishments to choose).

Durability

From a practical perspective, celloglaze lamination is ideal for business cards that are going to be handled often, put in and pulled out of wallets or purses regularly. This is because the celloglaze lamination coats the artboard in a naturally protective finish(*1-3).

Vibrance

From a design perspective, glossy business cards do really ‘pop’. Blacks look blacker and colours look more vibrant under gloss lamination(*1-3).

Should you choose gloss or matte lamination? Ultimately, the choice is yours. Our matte lamination is high quality and durability is also increased by the gsm of the artboard (and its quality). If your cards are going to be handled a lot, consider gloss lamination for an extra layer of protection.

Want a bit of both? Consider matte lamination with spot gloss on specific parts of the design.
