Business card follow-ups 'key to networking'

Taking time to follow up with contacts is the key to networking success

To make the most of a trade show, you should make daily notes on the business cards you exchange with other professionals, according to one New Zealand-based general manager.

Writing for Stuff.co.nz, Steve O'Connor of Creative HQ business incubator commented that following up on individual connections made at trade shows is the "single most important aspect to trade shows".

He pointed out that while you may make sales at the show, but the feedback you receive and the contacts you make could help to create opportunities for your firm long after the show has passed.

Mr O'Connor advised: "Make notes on the business cards you collect and each night collate them and prioritise how you will follow up while you remember who is who."

He added that trade shows require extensive work before, during and after - and those who are able to prepare effectively and follow up at the end of each day are likely to have the most success.

With so many business cards changing hands at trade shows, it is important that your company take steps to ensure yours stand out from the competition.

Opting for recycled business cards could reassure prospective clients and contacts of the integrity of your organisation.
