Ensure employee loyalty by putting in place staff recognition programs

Great staff are a part of any brand's success.

In an age of internet communication and increasingly fast-paced lives, it seems that some employers are turning to recognition software to praise their employees.

Bosses at a number of major companies are turning their backs on face-to-face recognition in favour of public forums such as official blogs and company Facebook pages to praise staff members.

But it is yet to be seen whether these time efficient practices are striking a chord with employees, in fact, some experts are even suggesting that the new management initiative may be doing more harm than good.

Tom Asher, company director at Rypple, said that there is a time and place for computer generated reward schemes, as well as more traditional recognition practices.

"Nothing is better than doing this face-to-face. There's no substitute for having a meeting," he said.

And the IT professional raises an important point, especially at a time when a high number of people are looking to change jobs.

Ranstand's employment outlook for 2012 found that as many as 47 per cent of employees had plans to look for a new job this year, with many citing salary as a motivating factor when it came to making decisions about their place of work.

About 60 per cent of survey participants felt their current pay is not an adequate reflection of the work they are doing or performance indicator, a problem that is especially true in areas worst affected by the global financial crisis.

Despite high levels of uncertainty there are still simple things employers can do to motivate staff and boost employee satisfaction.

For example, consulting a professional printing service to help redesign cost-effective business cards and passing them on to staff is another great way of making people feel like they are part of a team.

Another excellent tip is to make a point of learning the new staff member's name, no matter how large your enterprise may be - it is easy to do and will have an immediate impact on company loyalty.
