Sydney business event 'helps small firms raise profile'

Sydney small businesses are encouraged to register for an upcoming awards ceremony

An upcoming business event in Sydney may be the perfect springboard for small firms looking to raise their profile in the NSW capital.

Small companies are being encouraged to register for this year's City of Sydney Business Awards, which celebrate innovation, leadership and excellence across 22 categories.

These include niche areas such as health and fitness, retail fashion, restaurants and cafes, IT and tourism, among many others.

Small businesses, according to Sydney City lord mayor Clover Moore, are "the lifeblood of our economy".

She added: "The awards are a fantastic opportunity for Sydney's small businesses to increase their brand exposure, expand their customer network and take their business ideas to the next level."

Nominations and voting for the 2011 event are set to run until July 22 and the ceremony will take place on September 13.

Sydney business cards may be a useful marketing tool to bring to the awards, as the event is likely to open up a number of networking opportunities.

Entrepreneurs in particular may benefit from exchanging business cards, as new contacts are especially important for growing businesses.

Firms may wish to discuss their marketing materials with their printing service well ahead of the event to ensure everything is ready on time.
