Top tips for networking with business cards

One expert has offered her top tips for networking with business cards

Making an impact with your business cards is not just about design but about how it is presented, says author and businesswoman Shel Horowitz.

The personal marketing expert and author of Grassroots Marketing offers her top tips for networking using business cards.

Ms Horowitz advises not to thrust your business card at everyone you meet at a networking event.

"Start a conversation, explore whether there's commonality of interest, and ask for the other person's card. In most cases, he or she will reciprocate."

She believes the design of a business card should complement but not overwhelm the message you want to get across to your contact.

"A stunning and relevant card definitely makes an impact, if the information can
still be read and if the design makes sense for the message," she said.

"The card should identify how you can actually help your prospect - not just contact information."

Finally, ensure you don’t forget to include the obvious details like e-mail and phone contacts in readable print. Your Sydney printing service can help you with templates and offer other useful design tips if you need a hand.

Ms Horowitz also explores the use of business cards and personal marketing in her most recent book: Guerrilla Marketing Goes Green: Winning Strategies to Improve Your Profits and Your Planet.
