Business cards 'should offer clues'

Business cards should prompt your contact to take action - such as by following you on Twitter

Business cards should offer plenty of information to prompt the recipient to remember you and get in touch, one expert has asserted.

Ada Chen Rekhiada of Connected asserted that as business cards "have a tendency to get lost and re-emerge in the shuffle", it is essential that your card contains a number of key messages.

In particular, she emphasised that cards should explain who you are and what you do in a few simple words and prompt the recipient to follow up on your initial meeting.

The person you give a business card to needs to know what to do next, she explained, adding that if you prefer to be contacted via email or want your contact to follow you on Twitter, this information should be included.

Likewise, if you prefer a phone call or keep a professional blog you would like them to subscribe to, make sure these details are also visible on your card.

This, she said, makes it "easier for them to take the next step in getting to know you and your business".

Ms Chen Rekhiada also noted that as business cards tend to leave a lasting impression, it is important that these express your brand and your image.

Recycled business cards are one excellent way for a firm to stand out, as they can suggest an image of professionalism and integrity.
