Green energy highlighted in new Google partnership

Energy-efficient light bulbs and eco business cards benefit the environment.

News this week that Google will invest US$280 million into solar power panels highlights the organisation’s commitment to green energy and interest in sustainable business practices.

Google has teamed up with SolarCity and is hoping to provide funds that could assist solar panel installations and promote clean energy across the US.

Rick Needham, director of green business operations at Google, commented on the lack of solar rooftop initiatives in the US and revealed in the Official Google Blog: "We believe the world needs a wide range of clean energy options in the future, each serving different needs."

While clean energy is an important issue around the world, a number of other sustainable practices are available for companies of all sizes to adopt in the office and boardroom.

For example, professionals may wish to use eco business cards that are printed on recycled paper or developed with carbon neutral ink.

As well as highlighting your company’s green credentials, this may increase the awareness of other environmentally-friendly practices that employees could adopt around the office.

Other simple tips that businesses could adopt in the workplace include ensuring there are enough recycling bins, using energy-efficient light bulbs and turning off computers and office lights at the end of the day.
