Go beyond business cards by building personal relationships

One entrepreneur is looking for new ways to connect women in her community that go beyond the traditional exchange of business cards.

Speaking to phillyBurbs, Heather McCloskey remarked that monthly networking groups can help women with a variety of backgrounds - from corporate executives to stay-at-home mums - make personal connections.

The group, Sisters U, meets monthly for workshops, where topics of discussion range from resume writing and career building to healthy living.

“It’s not just about swapping business cards," she said, adding that a focus on personal relationships is what sets this networking organisation apart from other community groups.

Last month, Fairhaven's Joy Husak told the Peterborough Examiner that community networking events are often particularly useful for female entrepreneurs, who have much to gain by interacting with other businesswomen.

She commented that swapping business cards could be a great way to meet new contacts - who could potentially be useful to know in the future.

Women, according to Peterborough Women's Business Network president Betty Halman Plumley, make up the business community's fastest-growing sector.

By taking every opportunity to swap eco business cards, entrepreneurs will ensure they create a valuable arsenal of contacts that could prove to be helpful later on.
