How to get ahead in the modern workplace

Getting ahead at the office may not be so difficult.

Business owners and professionals around the country are slowly making their way back to work.

And while it is important to take time off over the Christmas and New Year period to enjoy a well-earned break from the day-to-day grind of the office, it may not be such a good idea to bring a ‘holiday attitude’ back to work.

However, we all know that Rome wasn’t built in a day and the same principle can be applied to the way we think.

Making a conscious decision to answer emails on time or catch up on past deadlines is often easier said then done.

So how can you start this year on a high note and keep it up over the next 12-months?  Simple. Just read our to-do list.

Top tips on how to get ahead this year

First and foremost, it is important to take the time to sit down and really think about what it is you want to achieve this year.

With this in mind it will be easy to write a list of achievable goals that will help you take control and match them with corresponding start and end times.

This way following through will become second nature and the more you achieve, the more motivated you will be to keep pushing ahead.

Another great idea - and one that is a staple of progressive workplaces around the world - is to simply switch off your email.

Research shows that completing tasks in the morning when your mind is fresh and then checking your account at around morning-tea time makes it easier to get things done  before a deadline.

The same rule can apply for mobile phones or any item that is used as a distraction.

But if you really want to stand out from the pack this year then why not take the time to invest in your workplace image?

Take the pressure out of meeting and greeting clients by presenting them with an eco business card.
