Outpost Project on Cockatoo Island showcases Street artist Banksy

Festival on Cockatoo Island promotes alternative art.

The Sydney Harbour Federation Trust's much-hyped urban festival Outpost Project, which will be held on the iconic Cockatoo Island, is set to begin on November 4.

The month long self-proclaimed explosion of urban art features internationally renowned curators, artists and performers is a first for the Southern Hemisphere.

And with so many exhibitions and forums set to take place on the must-see tourist destination, there will be no shortage of prime networking opportunities.

The month long festival will include installations by George Shaw's Oi You! Collection, which includes works by Os Gemeos, Swoon, Faile and the world renowned graffiti artist Banksy.

Large-scale instillation, murals and bill board displays from ROA (Belgium) and Ethos (Brazil) make up the international leg of the acts with work on display, while Kid Zoom and Anthony Lister represent some of the local talent on show with displays.

There will also be a number of collaborative works, pop-up bars, artist battles, demos, DJs and art-making projects on offer for visitors to the island.

Street art enthusiasts may also enjoy culture jamming some of the Australia's best skateboarders at the national Pro - AM Tour Grand Final.

Executive director of the Sydney Harbour Federation Geoff Bailey said: "Visitors can expect a packed program of exhibitions spanning a wide range of street art styles along with live art performances, installations and large-scale murals created on the island."

Local entrepreneurs with a passion for alternative art and festivals may want to frequent the event with an eco business card in hand.

It may also be a good idea to use recycled paper if you are interested in presenting a green image or promoting your brand's environmental credentials.

Research has shown that young people in particular respond well to companies that present a progressive front, as it indicates a forward-thinking approach.
