Finding a business card image that 'reflects me'

One woman took inspiration from The Scream when designing her business cards

Business card design has come a long way, writes blogger DG Fulford in Women's Day as she updates her image.

Ms Fulford used to have very simple cards - ivory on blue with just a name and short tagline "Write Your Story" - but was never very happy with them.

But when she recently ordered new business cards online she found there are a lot more decisions to be made. Thankfully, making the choices was fun, she said.

Among her considerations were whether to include phone numbers or fax details; an e-mail address and website. Then there's colour selection and whether to go green by choosing an eco recycled business card.

The most difficult thing to decide on to mark this change in communication contacts was the artwork.

There was almost too many choices - but they all seemed important as an effective way to make your card most meaningful to her specific line of work.

The writer considered selecting a nostalgic typewriter or an image that reflected her love of drinking coffee.

"And then I saw the image that most reflects me at this particular time. With a click of a mouse, it was mine.

"On shiny white heavy stock, is my name, my contact info and a colourful painting - Edvard Munch’s The Scream."
