Sunshine Coast Council gets ready for Green June

Green June aims to promote eco friendly practices in the local community.

The Sunshine Coast Council will host Green June next month - an event that promotes eco-friendly practices to communities and businesses.

According to the council, the impact of recycling one tonne of paper can be measured by saving 13 trees and 4 cubic metres of landfill.

Councillor Keryn Jones commented on how environmental initiatives can impact the community, stating: "If we all made small changes which don’t necessarily cost us anything and often even save us money, the impact would be significant."

The Sunshine Coast Council is educating the community and local businesses by providing fact sheets on waste management, energy conservation and renewable resources which are available online.

Companies may wish to adopt green friendly business practices on World Environment Day, which offers number of initiatives to encourage employees to be aware of their carbon footprint.

Choosing recycled business cards and considering alternative waste management strategies all contribute to a greener and more sustainable work environment.

This year also marks the United Nations' International Year of Forests and businesses could encourage employees to adopt eco-friendly practices in the office - such as green business cards, the use of recycled paper, switching off computers and using energy efficient light bulbs.
