Business cards can be a great tool to help jobseekers make connections at career fairs and employment events, one adviser has asserted.
Preparation is key, writes Judy Gillespie of Florida Today. She advises potential candidates to make an effort to find out which companies are attending the event and make a list of the ones they are particularly interested in.
Jobseekers should then rehearse a short introduction to quickly convey what they will be able to offer a prospective employer and ensure they have a hard copy of their resume on hand - ideally customised for the role they are interested in.
Personal business cards are an effective way of quickly and easily exchanging contact details with a prospective employer, Ms Gillespie suggests, adding that candidates should dress for career fairs as though they are attending a job interview.
Finally, when the career fair is over, jobseekers should take the time to review their contacts and send a thank-you message to the people they spoke with - this can make candidates stand out among the crowd, particularly if they mention a specific detail about their meeting.
Eco business cards are another brilliant way for candidates to stand out, as they can project an image of accountability.
