Australians among the top users of QR scanning in the world

QR codes allow people to access more information on a product and may benefit businesses.

Australians are the third most frequent global users of quick response (QR) scanning, according to a US study researching the patterns of technology usage around the world.

QR scanning traffic has jumped by 4549 per cent since the first quarter last year, according to the study by Mobio.

The square barcode allows mobile phone users to access more information after scanning the black and white code.

Businesses may wish to integrate QR barcodes in their printed materials, such as business cards, posters or leaflets. This could assist firms track customers and may generate interest in marketing initiatives - such as printed advertisements in magazines and postcards.

Marly Hazen, a webmaster at CTSI Global, spoke about the benefits of incorporating matte stock on the back of business cards: "The backs save us money - and ink - while providing us and our contacts a chance to write on the back as needed."

He added: "Whether it’s a phone number or a coupon code, the company LinkedIn URL or a QR code sticker, that is one place where people can work their own styles."

Firms may wish to contact their printing service when designing their business cards to enquire about incorporating relevant details such as contact information or a QR code.
