Sydney named the world's best event city two-years running

Sydney recognised as leading event and festival city.

For the second year in a row, Sydney has been named the "world's best festival and event city" for populations greater than one million people by industry experts.

The International Festivals and Events Association (IFEA) released the awards at this year's conference in Fort Worth, Texas, making Sydney one of the top networking destinations for both local and overseas business leaders.

Steven Wood Schmader, president and chief executive office of IFEA, said: "Sydney won due to the community leadership and ongoing, concerted efforts and support to provide a positive local environment that is conducive to and encourages the success and growth of festivals and events."

Internationally-regarded festivals such as the Harry Potter exhibition, which was held at the Power House Museum, as well as the Lyric Theatre's Richard III event were thought to have influenced the judges' decision making.

Destination Sydney - the group responsible for negotiating festival and event contracts - was also instrumental in securing world premieres in the film and arts sector.

Premier Barry O'Farrell welcomed the announcement while at the same time reaffirming Sydney's position as a truly cosmopolitan city.

"Sydney is Australia's global city and being honoured with such an award will drive even more visitors to out city and state," he commented.

And with even more events booked for the upcoming four years - which at this point include Tiger Woods' appearance at the Australian Open and Presidents Cup in November 2011, the Sydney International Rowing Regatta and the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifier games, as well as many other events - now is a good time for business leaders to promote their brands in the harbour city.

For those who will be attending any or all of these events, a smart and professional business card is essential.

It may also be a good idea to consult your local Sydney printing service to ensure that your cards present the image of a rising entrepreneur and creates a lasting impression.
