New parents who are looking to balance family life with starting their own small business may struggle with time management, but there are a number of strategies to try that may help.
Answering a reader query in the Charlotte Observer, Dr Jennie Wong suggested that new mums who are entrepreneurs should "treat your business like a baby and your baby like a business".
She says that this means proper preparation, including setting out an accurate budget for start-up expenses.
This budget should account for time - a new mum may wish to arrange one or two days of childcare a week to help get her business off the ground - as well as marketing expenses, including enlisting a printing service to prepare business cards.
New Australian mums who do not have much time on their hands may wish to speak to their Sydney printing service about design templates - some firms can even design business cards on your behalf if you provide them with vital details, including your organisation's name and contact details.
Dr Wong explained that it is important for new mums to plan for their business to be successful. Just as they may harbour dreams of their baby growing up, going to university and landing a career, they need to have big goals for their business too.
These goals can be broken down into milestones to be celebrated.
"Remember, you have to crawl before you walk - and walk before you run," she said.
