Using a quick response (QR) code on your business card could be a good way of demonstrating your awareness of emerging technology and using it to your advantage.
Tony Conrad, founder of About.me, commented to Fox Business that QR codes are particularly good icebreakers if you are looking for new career opportunities, as they allow prospective employers to find out a bit more about you before you proceed to an interview.
QR codes - specific matrix barcodes that usually consist of black modules arranged in a square shape on a white background - can be scanned by some types of camera phone, as well as by dedicated QR barcode readers.
The codes can link to website URLs, allowing your potential contact to learn more about you or your current employer via your professional website.
Mr Conrad said: "The fact that you have [a QR code] and understand it and that you're using emerging technology; that shows that you're ambitious enough to seek out something new and implement it to your benefit."
He added: "It means they can contact you for your specific talents and start the conversation already knowing some of your background."
One American law firm - Odin, Feldman and Pittman - recently offered the option of using a QR code on business cards for its 55 attorneys.
