A mentoring program in western Sydney has been set up to help businesswomen learn the ropes of starting an enterprise.
The Business Women of Western Sydney Mentoring Program has been run in Holroyd over the last three months and has proved very successful, according to participants.
Local mayor Peter Monaghan described the program as focusing on teaching skills and strategies to improve promising small businesses run by women.
The program involves 15 hours of business-skills workshops, ten hours of mentoring, work on a business project and two networking events, where there is an opportunity to exchange business cards and make contacts with other local entrepreneurs.
It will culminate with a graduation and exhibition at the end of July.
Georgette Solyali told the Parramatta Sun that running her Magic Sugar Art business was an overwhelming experience until she enrolled in the program.
But she found "every bit" of her mentor Susan Wahab's advice was "worthwhile".
"She showed me it's one thing to work in a business, it's another to work on it."
Her mentor Ms Wahab has been happy to share her experience: "The most important thing is time management; get organised and make time for your private life and your family," she said.
