Free space 'essential' in business card design

Leaving a blank space on a business card means you can jot down a personal note.

Business card design should always include some "free space" that can be used to write down a quick note, one expert has commented.

Guenevere Millius, partner of SRM Architecture and Marketing, commented that it is wise to print on white business cards and leave the back blank so you can write a memorable message to your potential contact.

She pointed out that a note like "met me at Entrepreneurs Happy Hour" can be a useful way to jog your contact's memory after a crowded networking event where many cards have been exchanged.

"In other words, feel free to add a flood of colour on the back of a card, but avoid the darker hues so it can be used in this way," she explained.

Ms Millius also noted that the quality of your business card stock is important to consider, as well as choosing an eye-catching design.

Printing business cards on recycled paper can be a great way to make a subtle statement, as these can imply an image of integrity.

You'll find that eco business cards are an affordable option and when you choose paper made from 100 per cent recycled fibre, you can also feel confident about your impact on the environment.
