Award-winning screenwriter works the crowd

An Aussie director has been making an impact with business cards in Milan

Australian screenwriter Lynne Renew says winning an award at the prestigious Milan Film Festival in Italy has opened a new chapter in her life.

"I've got so many business cards after the win - all sorts of men who were giving me their business cards and saying they would love to work with me," she told ABC after the win.

Ms Renew won the best screenplay award for Matching Jack along with her co-writer David Parker.

The critical acclaim could lead to further opportunities for the 60-year-old if she can capitalise on this success.

"A business card is an essential networking and informational tool that no professional should be without,” advises Public Relations executive Hunter Valmont.

"The digital age has made the need to know one's location less necessary. Today's business card may not include a physical address, but definitely should include links to relevant social media sites such as LinkedIn and Twitter.

"Regardless of one's virtual connections, people will always embrace the face-to-face. Have a business card ready."

Ms Renew wrote the script of Matching Jack while she was at film school, based on events in her own life.

She hopes the awards (the film also received a best director gong) will create a wider audience for the film.
